Game
Notes: "What a way to start
a new year! Sure I like my Giants games played in the afternoon. Sure I'd rather
not be rained on, but for sure I love seeing my Giants winning the division title
any time - any place. If you were at the stadium tonight you got to wipe off the
rain with one of the towels they thoughtfully provided. You got to wave off the
Cowboys as they disappeared into the darkness. Losing to the Cowboys at home in
the last game of the season, with the division title on the line
was unthinkable, and the Giants didn't let it happen. When Lawrence Tynes
missed a field goal that would have increased our 14-0 lead, Tony Romo next got
his team down to around our 15 yard line. I was nervous, but Romo's long scrambling
pass was called back because he went past the line of scrimmage. That killed his
drive and the Giants scored another touchdown to give me and the rest of the fans
a chance to relax at halftime with a 21-0 score. Still, how often have the
Giants held the lead this season throughout the whole game? That's what I was
thinking when the next two scores were touchdowns by the Cowboys. We were in the
fourth quarter, Romo had now completed two touchdown passes and the lead was cut
to 21-14. The Giants looked like they were responding with a three-and-out when
Eli scrambles and throws the ball downfield for a 44 yard completion to our star
of the season, Victor Cruz. Lawrence Tynes made good this time with a 28 yard
field goal and with a 10 point lead and less than six minutes on the clock, I
felt I could breath again. The defense dealt Romo a sack, and two incompletions
later the Cowboys were three-and-out. Eli Manning chewed up two Dallas timeouts
and ended his drive with a touchdown pass to Hakeem Nicks. 31-14 became the final
score and what was I worried about? The
Giants had even held the lead all through the game for a change. We're only one
day into the new year and its already been a great one for Giants fans. See you
in the playoffs!"
Game Notes:
"The big question mark on this game was
the real status of Tony Romo and his bruised right hand. A few short weeks ago
he had no problem hitting the Giants secondary for 4 touchdown passes. Tonight
Romo sustained six sacks, but none of that was because of a problem throwing hand.
The Giants front line kept the pressure up and the secondary limited his targets.
His two running backs got him 46 yards. Eli
Manning was as sharp as he's been all season, throwing for 346 yards and three
touchdowns, even completing eight of his nine third down passes for 192 yards.
The Cowboys knew that the Manning to
Cruz connection would be coming at them from their own recent personal experience
and from what Victor Cruz did last week against the Jets ( 3 catches, 164 yards,
1 TD) and tonight he had 6 catches for 178 yards and 1 touchdown. The
Cowboys opened their season at MetLife losing to the Jets after blowing a 14-point
lead in the fourth quarter. The Giants did a good job making sure the Cowboys
season ended there tonight as well. The
Giants went 6-2 in the first half of the season and thanks to the win tonight,
they avoided going 2-6 in the second half and enduring once again, all the grief
that goes with yet another late season collapse. They won three of their last
four games and that included two over the Cowboys and finished up with a 9-7 record.
That's one less win than last year, but this time they are the NFC East Division
Champions. They get to stay home for the start of the playoffs and will face the
wildcard Falcons (10-6) next Sunday at 1 p.m. Most important, they are starting
to look playoff ready." Scoring:

except this one. Giants will face
the Atlanta Falcons next week at home in their first playoff game since the 2008

Victor Cruz had 3 catches this season where he gained at least 60 yards after
the catch. That ties for the most in the league. Cowboys
LB DeMarcus Ware had 1.5 sacks and finished the season with 19.5. Cowboys
have lost seven straight games playing on Sunday nights. Next
