Game
Notes: "It
was a tough year to be a Giants fan, let alone to be a season ticket holder. The
last Eagles game was a real killer, and I think that was the game that made me
realize that even if the Giants recovered and made it into the playoffs they wouldn't
get very far. Last week against the Giants Aaron Rodgers got the ball out quickly
and scrambled around to buy time with his receivers. Rex Grossman is no Aaron
Rodgers, but still he was able to come up with a threatening passing game against
the Giants. He completed 26 of his passes for 336 yards and 2 touchdowns. The
Giants did nail Grossman for one interception and caused him to fumble twice and
if they hadn't they probably would have lost this game. Overall the season
ended on a higher note than last year and you could only hope and wonder what
things might have been like if the special teams unit didn't lose Hixon right
from the start, and if the starting offensive line had stayed intact, and if a
whole group of starting receivers didn't end up on injured reserve. Obviously
Eli Manning's play would have been better as he instead was forced to try to make
something out of nothing way too many times. Hopefully the running game would
have functioned better on the consistency of the line and the passing game. The
defense was put in a lot of poor positions by the offense and special teams unit
and also hit with a number of injuries throughout the season. Maybe that's why
they gave up big plays at times and at other times seemed unbeatable. There's
been a lot of talk about Eli Manning and Tom Coughlin, and I believe Eli is solid
and that Coughlin certainly deserves another year to straighten out any deficiencies
this team may have."
Game Notes:
"Last week Tom Coughlin said, "There
is no way that anybody wins in this league turning the ball over six times."
Well the Giants had only one turnover
this game when Eli Manning's pass to Mario Manningham was batted up into the air
and intercepted by Redskins cornerback Phillip Buchanon. Instead, the Redskins
turned the ball over four times, and that was just enough for them to lose this
game. The fact that the Giants needed the one interception and three fumbles to
win this game by a measly three points is not a great testament to the caliber
of football they have been playing on offense. If you feel badly that they
missed out on being in the playoffs with a 10-6 record, don't because you likely
would be dealing with those feelings next week instead. The Giants are not a playoff
ready team by any means and the only good that came from winning this last game
against a patched up Redskins team is that they can deflect things away from their
inefficiencies as they point to the fact that the NFL system is flawed by letting
a 10-6 team go home. Don't believe it. If you are a real Giants team you did not
see anything resembling the team you saw on the field playing their last regular
season game against the Patriots back in the 2007 season. Scoring:
