Notes: "Well, it was a repeat performance
for the Giants as they took another beating this week that nearly matched the
last. They managed to hold the Vikings to field goals on the opening drives of
the first and second half. The rest of the game, when Brett Favre and the rest
of his starters were playing, they held them to - touchdowns. Oh yeah wait, there
was that one defensive series when that didn't happen. Savor that fleeting memory.
Anyway the Giants were immediately better once Favre was on the sidelines, giving
up only one field goal and then scoring one touchdown to avoid a shutout to make
the score a more respectable 44-7. My
advice - root for Minnesota to take it the rest of the way and beat every team
by about 40 points or so. Then you'll nod your head and say, 'Hey, it's not really
the Giants - the Vikings were that good!' Don't look back. Look forward to opening
day at the new stadium. The players with injuries will have healed and the coaching
staff will have everything figured out by then. They may even decide to activate
some young talent when necessary and put them on the field even if they don't
handle special teams all that well. Danny Ware and Ramses Barden come to mind.
See you all in my new seats next year!"
Game Notes:
"If you thought last week was bad,
you shouldn't have tuned in this week. The only reason it might not hurt as much
was that it came at the hands of an unbelievably talented and durable Brett Favre
quarterbacked team, and the fact that the Giants really had nothing to lose anymore.
Coughlin said his team was playing for pride today, but pride was gone quite a
while back with one or two other ridiculous losses this team succumbed to this
season. The Giants started at 5-0 and at that point four other teams were
undefeated, the Colts and Broncos in the AFC, and the Vikings and Saints in the
NFC. Three of them won their division titles while the two Turkey teams, Giants
and Broncos who coincidentally played each other on Thanksgiving Day, lost the
next 8 out of 11 games to finish up 8-8. The Vikings looked unstoppable against
this rag-tag Giants team and even the coaching staff seemed as though they were
anxious to get this season over. I could swear that there were two plays that
would have been overturned if challenged. On the first the Vikings got a play
off fast, and on the second with about 2:30 left in the first half, a pass intended
for Kevin Boss was smothered by Chad Greenway as he hit the ground and rolled
over on it. Greenway fumbled it away to another Viking player, but I'd say the
ball hit the ground before it was caught.
Down 24-0 at that point you had to throw the challenge flag, but no one did. Of
course the Vikings, getting the possession, scored yet another touchdown off it
before the half was over." Early
