Game
Notes: "This was a Jets home
game, but Giants have pride and they made Mark Sanchez feel anything but at home
today in this game. All the Rex trash talk is now in the trash where it belongs.
The Jets gave up one of the biggest plays in Giants history when Victor
Cruz made that 99-yard touchdown catch. It's too bad it came in a game that many
loyal Giants fans couldn't be there to see in person. Luckily, there was a big
bunch that did have the opportunity since the game was played in the shared stadium
and some tickets were available. The Jets scored first on their first possession
of all things, but it happened because the Giants were hit with a penalty after
stopping the Jets on a fourth-and-four which allowed that drive to continue. Without
that score it could have been 10-0 in favor of the Giants at the end of the half
instead of 10-7. It didn't matter in the long run as the Jets were never able
to catch up or take the lead after that for the rest of the game. Not that things
came overall easy. I mean I couldn't believe it when Nicks dropped the ball after
having done the same last week. Ramses Barden also was guilty of letting Eli Manning
down, and our quarterback looked surprised at times at choices his receivers made
dancing around the field. The running game was going nowhere for a long while
and the refs seemed to give every break to the Jets. In the end though, the Giants
made the big plays and their fans went home with their holiday spirits intact
with the 29-14 win. Now the Giants set
their sites on the Cowboys next week, and guess what? - One more win and they're
in!"
Game Notes:
"The Jets won the battle of 'First Downs'
in the first half. They had 13 and the Giants had just 4. That's right, only 4
first downs, and they all came from passing the ball as the running game didn't
exist, just 6 yards rushing on 7 attempts. The Jets were also controlling the
clock almost two to one with Mark Sanchez completing about two thirds of his passes
(18-28) while Eli Manning was completing under half of his (7-18). The one big
difference and note the word 'big' here - was the 'big play'. When the Giants
needed it most, nearing the end of the half, down 7-3 and on a third-and-10 at
their own one yard line, Victor Cruz grabbed Eli Manning's pass, did some sidestepping
and took the ball 99 yards for a touchdown. That play turned the game around and
shocked the Jet fans and the players as well. The Giants showed they were capable
of doing things like that and everyone knew the Jets were not. The Giants defense
came to play today and even though they had just 11 sacks in their previous eight
games, they kept Mark Sanchez off balance. They had one sack in the first half
and added four more in the second including one in the Jets endzone for a safety.
Sanchez's numbers that looked so good early on diminished as he completed only
12 of his next 31 passes for 113 yards. Sanchez finished with two interceptions
and got away with a few throws that came close. With Darrelle Revis all over
Hakeem Nicks (one catch, 20 yards) and without Mario Manningham and Jake Ballard,
and with his receivers dropping a few, Eli Manning completed a total of only nine
passes today. He managed to make them count for 225 yards almost the same as last
week when he completed 23 of 40 for 257 yards. The running game came alive in
the second half and Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jacobs, and Danny Ware rushed for
over a hundred yards and 2 touchdowns and each had one catch. Combined with Victor
Cruz, they had 6 of Manning's 9 completions. Earlier
in the week Justin Tuck had enough of the back and forth talk that was going on
with the Jets. “Win,’’ Justin Tuck said. “That’s all that matters. Win. We don’t
need to play good, we just need to win. I don’t care what happens, make sure we
have more points than they do." Tuck was right in one respect, more points
win the game and the Giants did that today. They have to do it one more time against
the Cowboys next week to be in the playoffs. They have to forget the 'don’t need
to play good' part of what he said and they may have started to do just that in
the second half of today's game." Scoring:
