Game
Notes: "Coming
off the spirit of Christmas, the Giants still seemed in the mood for giving things
away. They handed over four interceptions and two fumbles and advanced Green Bay's
chance to get to the playoffs while likely sacrificing theirs. 'Give till it hurts'
seemed to be the theme instead of 'win and you're in,' and being the perfect guests
they made a lot of Green Bay fans happy. It was the most turnovers they'd recovered
over the last four seasons. The defense was certainly lacking. You would figure
that Aaron Rodgers would be a little gun-shy coming back after two concussions
and the Giants couldn't take advantage of that. There wasn't much quarterback
pressure and before long, Rodgers was comfortable enough to scramble for yardage
against the Giants 'fierce' quarterback-killing defense. To be fair, Aaron
Rodgers played a spectacular game and as an outsider I can see now why the Green
Bay management was anxious for Brett Favre to respectfully retire and hand things
over to his younger very talented stand-in. I give credit to Aaron Rodgers for
coming back after his second concussion and playing so well. This may surprise
you, and you're probably not in the right mood to hear it now, but I also give
credit to Eli Manning working with inexperienced receivers. I know he threw four
interceptions but with his team down and totally uncaring about statistics and
the Monday morning newspapers, Manning didn't back down and went for it all to
win. I want to see him in the playoffs again and with some help from other teams,
maybe my wish will come true."
Game Notes:
"The Giants felt they had a good outlook
coming off their loss to the Eagles last week, at least from everything I read.
If they did, it somehow didn't translate too well into this game. Maybe the defense
was a little too confident and laid back considering they gave up that 80 yard
touchdown pass to Aaron Rodgers on the first snap of his second possession. Eli
Manning was anything but relaxed on his second possession. You would have thought
they were down about twenty points in the fourth quarter instead of just seven
in the first. Too many times this season the offense looks like they're in
some sort of desperate 'panic mode' before the snap. They line up and every time
someone on the defense scratches their backside Manning barks out orders and redirects.
Forget that crowd noise makes it almost impossible for them to hear all his new
wisdom and - the play clock is almost zero. Quick - snap the ball and surprise,
another bad pay. This 'panicked' series ended quickly with a third-down interception.
Eli Manning is a football brainiac running the offense, and it would be great
to have the absolute best percentages down to twelve decimal points in every single
play, but guess what? Football is not a relaxed board game. It doesn't work if
you can't get your knowledge across to everyone involved before the snap. That's
one reason Sheldon Lee Cooper (187 IQ) isn't your go-to guy for running a football
offense. There was some glimmer of big-play hope from the offense in the second
quarter when Manning threw back to back touchdown passes, Hakeem Nicks - 36 yards,
Mario Manningham - 85 yards, That tied the game up at 14-14 but that score couldn't
even last the half. The Giants, falling all over themselves, could only muster
enough offense for one field goal in the third quarter. That may be just enough
to bring back a glimmer of one fond memory to Lawrence Tynes in his thoughts of
playoffs gone by. Other than that, the Giants sure look like they let the playoffs
go bye-bye. Coaching wise, did anybody notice that Brandon Jacobs averaged
about 6 yards a carry and Ahmad Bradshaw less than 3? Why not more carries by
Jacobs, and what was with that wildcat snap to Bradshaw? He seemed more surprised
to have the ball in his hands than the guy who knocked it out. Defenses are always
going to have someone keying on Bradshaw so what's the benefit of this play? Also,
going into this game you knew the Packers had 18 interceptions and opposing quarterbacks
have had trouble passing on them. Eli Manning fed right into both of their strengths,
and the Giants failed to capitalize on their weakness, defending against the run.
The Giants have given up 83 points in their last two games. That sounds a lot
like last year when they folded and gave up 85 points in the final two games.
That alone doesn't look good for this coaching staff at this point in time." Scoring:
