Game
Notes: "This wasn't the kind
of game you wanted to be at the stadium to see. It started great when Corey Webster
picked off Rex Grossman's first pass of the game, but went down hill for the rest
of the day. The Giants didn't score their first points until there was less than
a minute left in the first half and that was just a field goal to make the score
17-3. They didn't score a touchdown until there were only 33 seconds left in the
game, if you were still there to see it. What you were hoping to see was the Giants
keeping pace with the Cowboys, who won their game last night over Tampa Bay to
give them an 8-6 record. Now the Cowboys are in first place in the NFC East
and I know Mikefan will tell you that it doesn't matter because 'if the Giants
win the next two games, they will own the division title' blah blah. Well guess
what? If the Cowboys win their next two games, they will own the division title.
This of course works for both teams because the Giants and Cowboys play each other
one more time, and guess who gets to see it all happen live? All the fans that
were at the stadium to see the Giants today and weren't very happy with the level
of play they got to see firsthand. If the Giants lose to the Jets on Christmas
Eve and the Cowboys win their game against the Eagles, it's all over. There may
not be a ton of fans showing up after their January 1st hangover just to congratulate
the Cowboys on their division title victory."
Game Notes:
"Give it to the Redskins, they played
a good game and you can't take that away from their effort. On the other hand,
'give the game away to the Redskins' is just what the Giants did.
The defense played as their usual self, in fact they did even better. In the last
three games the Giants gave up 34 or more points a game. Today they kept that
down to just 23, but the offense didn't do their part. Over those same three games
they had scored a minimum of at least 24 points, but came up with a measly 10
today. It was a game of opposites as Eli Manning passed the ball 40 times,
while the Redskins decided to run the ball 40 times. The Giants stayed with the
ground game on only 18 plays and the Redskins limited Rex Grossman to just 24
passes. Since neither quarterback was effective - Manning threw 3 interceptions
and Grossman threw 2 - you can say the Redskins made the wiser choice. They ended
up having the ball for 35 minutes compared to the Giants 25. By the way, the Giants
averaged 5.1 yards a carry running the ball and 6 of those 18 rushes resulted
in first downs. Why didn't they go that way more considering the Redskins seemed
to have Manning under a lot of pressure on each snap? Manning started 0-6 and
his first completion didn't come until the second quarter and his very next was
intercepted. Despite all this, the Giants still control things. If they beat the
Jets and then the Cowboys in their final two games, they will win the division.
Where they could take that is anyone's guess." Scoring:
