Notes: "I admit, I was hoping for
more after the Giants got an early 7-0 lead. A blowout would have been nice, but
instead it was one of the usual Giants-Eagles battles you have come to expect,
with all the twists and turns. It included the longest Giants runback of the season
by Craig Morton for 38 yards, followed later by the longest runback of the season
by the Eagles, the first interception on Jeff Garcia since he started, fights
and unexpected penalties, and as usual, Brian Dawkins played a big part with one
interception and two forced fumbles. This game could have gone either way.
The Giants had a shaky 16-14 lead in the fourth quarter, but couldn't hold it.
Jeff Garcia, Brian Westbrook and Correll Buckhalter were playing too good, and
today the Giants needed a little more firepower. If Michael Strahan could have
made it back for this game, that could have made the difference."
Game Notes:
"The Eagles stopped Tiki Barber last time,
and the Giants didn't believe it. Tiki Barber did a bit better this time, but
not near enough to control this game or near enough to wear the Eagles defense
down. The Eagles were daring the Giants to beat them in the air, and that's a
good strategy against the Giants ultra conservative gameplay. Give the Giants
a 2nd and short, and they'll either run the ball or toss a short pass for the
first down. They don't see it as an opportunity to keep the defense off balance,
throw downfield and make a big play. They did take one shot late in the third
quarter on a first down. After Akers missed on a 48 yard field goal, the Giants
had the ball on their own 38 and Manning threw a pass deep to Plaxico Burress
for 52 yards. That gave them a great shot from the Eagles 10 yard line, but that
somehow resulted in a mere field goal instead of a go-ahead touchdown. Overall,
the Eagles forced four turnovers, and that was too expensive for the Giants to
overcome. The Giants defense couldn't stop the Eagles when they had the edge,
3rd-11, 2nd-11, 3rd-8, 3rd-11, were all do-able and the Eagles totaled 382 yards.
Despite everything, the Giants can still get into the playoffs. If they win their
next two games against New Orleans and Washington, they are in the playoffs." Early
