Notes: "This was such a back and
forth game I was on the edge of my seat all the way. I'm just so glad that the
Giants won! The Dolphins fumbled the ball on their opening drive and Jason Pierre-Paul
recovered it. The Giants made one first down and then settled for a field goal
and we were up 3-0. The Dolphins came right back with a touchdown to take the
lead. Both teams punted on their next two drives before Eli Manning got his group
down to the Miami six yard line early in the second quarter. On the first play,
Rashad Jennings ran for no gain and then Eli was incomplete on a pass to Odell
Beckham Jr., so now it was third down. After what's happened in the past few
games I was just hoping they wouldn't turn the ball over. I held my breath when
I saw Eli throw to Rueben Randle in the endzone, but this time it worked! The
Giants lead didn't last long, because once again the Dolphins followed up our
scoring with a touchdown of their own. Then later in the quarter they recovered
a fumble and added a field goal and that put them up 17-10. Eli had less than
two minutes to do something and the big play on this drive was a completion to
Beckham, good for 45 yards. Then with a first down at the Miami 5 yard line Eli
connected with Will Tye in the endzone and
things were tied up 17-17 by the time the half ended. The Giants got the ball
first in the third quarter and went three-and-out. Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill
got off a pass to his receiver Kenny Stills and it went for a 47 yard touchdown.
Then Eli got the ball all the way downfield and threw a pass to Beckham in the
endzone that was ruled incomplete. Tom Coughlin challenged it and you could see
on the review that Beckham just barely got both toes down in bounds for the touchdown.
Once again the score was tied. The Giants could have changed that on their next
drive, but Josh Brown missed on a 48 yard field goal try. In the fourth quarter
the Giants broke the tie when Beckham made yet another great catch for an 84 yard
touchdown. The Dolphins killed themselves on their next two drives with penalties
and then Eli managed to chew up the last four and a half minutes to end the game
for a 31-24 win. The other teams in the NFC East played their games yesterday
and the Giants needed this one to stay in first place with the Eagles and Redskins.
They did what they had to do and let's hope they can keep it up over the last
three games."
Game
Notes: "I
thought the Giants were in trouble when they took the lead in the fourth quarter,
but wait, isn't that the way you usually win football games? It hasn't been that
way for the Giants for much of this season beginning with their opening game against
the Cowboys. Tonight in prime time they were able to finish out a game. Eli Manning
had a remarkable game completing 27 of his 31 passes to 8 different receivers.
His four touchdowns went to Odell Beckham Jr. (2), Rueben Randle (1) and Will
Tye (1). Of course Beckham stole the show as he tends to do with his amazing catches
and he had seven of them for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns. The running game showed
improvement with Rashad Jennings getting most of the carries. It's still not strong
enough it seems for Manning to rely on it when he's down by the goal line. The
defense started off strong on the Dolphins opening drive when Landon Collins forced
a fumble that Jason Pierre-Paul recovered.
The Giants capitalized on that right away to take a 3-0 lead on Josh Brown's field
goal. That was the only one he made on the day after missing a 48 yarder later
in the game. That was a bit troubling considering
Brown had made 29 field goals in a row over a two year period before missing one
in overtime just last week. You'd hate to see the Giants make some kind of
run for the division and have it fail due to an unreliable kicking game. Getting
this win was all very well and good, but to put things in perspective, it's taken
until now with only three games left on the season, to win six games to merely
match the same amount they had in the 2014 season when they finished 6-10. Right
now there's no proof that they'll surpass that record especially with the undefeated
Carolina Panthers coming up next. Anyway, the Giants are still in it and you never
know."
