Game Notes:
"This was a tough game for anyone at the stadium to sit and watch.
It was crummy enough with the windy weather and all, but you were hoping
to see the Giants take the division title today with a win over the Eagles.
Instead, the Eagles mostly had everything going their way for the whole
first half except for the very last play when they were about to score
for the third time. That's when Justin Tuck blocked their field goal attempt
and Kevin Dockery ran it back 71 yards for a touchdown. Sure the Giants
were still down at the end of the half, but what was about to be a 13-0
score suddenly turned into just a 3 point lead by the Eagles.
Unfortunately, nothing much changed in the second half. The Giants seemed
to be about a half second off on either getting to McNabb or making a
big tackle, play after play. The Giants offense looked sick and they couldn't
continue their drives. Meanwhile the Eagles were able to control the ball
and make just about every third down play they came up against. It's bad
news when you're in the fourth quarter and the only points scored up to
then were by your defensive unit. The only reason the Giants offense matched
them was that the Eagles gave up a so-what touchdown as the clock ran
down."
Game Notes:
"The Eagles played a good
game and they won. If you want to take away from what they accomplished,
you can say that they're a tough team to beat when they have ten days
of rest and when they have the luck to win the coin toss when it really
makes a difference. With that the Eagles were able to pick the the wind
conditions to their favor and that certainly gave them an edge. Now with
that out of your system, and to be fair, the way the Giants offense was
playing this game, the Eagles probably would have won it anyway.
Brandon Jacobs was the most effective offensive player, averaging about
5 yards a carry, but he had to leave the game with a knee injury after
eight carries. The other running backs, Derrick Ward and Ahmad Bradshaw
couldn't pick up the yards like Jacobs did, and the usual sure-handed
receivers were dropping passes on Eli Manning that walk-ons could catch.
With an 11-2 record the Giants will likely go on to win the division,
maybe even today with a loss by Dallas playing later. Winning on their
own in this game they would have been able to put an end to the constant
press pressure that's been on them saying that the recent distractions
will affect them the rest of the season and they won't be able to be successful.
What can you say? The way they played today, those arguments can't be
shelved."
