Shockey caught 6 passes for 65 yards, and 1 touchdown. Plaxico Burress caught
6 passes for 43 yards and 1 touchdown. Tiki Barber caught 5 passes for 53
yards. Mathias Kiwanuka and Will Demps each had interceptions. Mathias
Kiwanuka had 1 sack. Jay Feely kicked 2 field goals, 23 and 22 yards. Game
Notes: "Even though the Cowboys had
won three straight games, including one against the undefeated Indianapolis Colts,
they couldn't just waltz in here and beat the Giants without a fight. Hotshot
quarterback Tony Romo was reduced to average, but the Giants needed just a little
bit extra. They needed a bit more of a pass rush and then Romo would have looked
even worse. It wouldn't have been such a back and forth game, and the Giants probably
would have won. They needed Michael Strahan on the field instead of the sidelines.
Now there are four more games left, and if the Giants continue to play the way
they did today, and if Strahan makes it back, this will be a close race to the
finish."
Game Notes:
"Bill
Parcells pulls them off the bench or off the scrapheap or whatever - it doesn't
matter. Somehow Bill knows how and when to do it, and it works. Tony Romo was
nothing but a backup player a few short weeks ago, and Martin Gramatica wasn't
even playing football. His career just about over and done, but Parcells made
them both starters on his team.
Since 2000, Gramatica was 6 of 12 in making field goals in the 30-39 yard range,
and only 4 of 13 from a 40-49 yard distance, but Parcells somehow knows when to
make the right moves. If Bill Parcells needs to he can come up with a quarterback
right off the bench. If he needs a kicker, he produces one. Suddenly Gramatica
can suit up this week and nail three field goals, 35 yards, 41 yards, and a 46
yarder to win the game for Bill. As for Tony Romo, he didn't have his best
game. The Giants are some sort of kryptonite to Romo. Romo had given up only 2
interceptions in his first 5 starts, but today he gave up 2 to the Giants, and
remember that when he first stepped on the field to replace Drew Bledsoe against
this same team, he gave up three. Romo had thrown 10 touchdowns over his first
five starts, but got none today, and still it didn't matter. Bill Parcells was
on the sidelines working his magic and building his legend." Early
