Game Notes:
"The Giants were lucky to escape the first quarter after playing so poorly and I hoped they'd get their act together. The Redskins scored first in the second quarter with a field goal and then they kept adding onto it. Kirk Cousins threw a long 63 yard touchdown pass to DeSean Jackson and then he was able to get the ball into the endzone for another score, and the Giants were down 17-0 at the end of the half.
Cousins got the ball first to start off the next quarter and easily moved downfield to the Giants 36 yard line. Then feeling maybe a little too good about how things were going, they went for it on fourth down. There was a fumbled handoff and the Giants had the ball back! Eli marched the group down to the Redskins four yard line and I was probably feeling a little too good myself. That was until a pass in the endzone to Rueben Randle was intercepted.
The Redskins were off the hook, and later kicked a field goal to start the fourth quarter. The Giants finally scored with a touchdown on the next drive and then again on their next turn. They were down by six points with about five minutes to go. After the punt, the defense let the Redskins chew up almost all of that time. What suddenly happened to them? They had done so much better throughout the game. Eli had just 19 seconds to make something happen and it wasn't going to happen today.
The Giants got a late start putting points on the board. They struggled until the fourth quarter before being able to score with a long touchdown pass from Eli Manning to Rueben Randle. That was followed up by an amazing endzone touchdown catch by
Odell Beckham Jr., but you just can't give up 20 straight points and then expect things to suddenly fall into place. Now the Redskins are tied with the Giants for first place in the division and who knows what to expect from the Giants next week against the Jets?"

Game Notes:
"The Giants had two weeks to prepare for the Redskins, but they played as if they hadn't touched a football in two months. This was one game they needed to win against an equal-to-subpar division team and it looked like they were trying to give it away. The giving started on the very first Giants drive, which had them just past midfield after Eli Manning had recovered a fumble, had a delay of game penalty and followed that up by throwing an interception. On this play the ball was bounced up in the air by Shane Vereen and snared by Redskins linebacker Perry Riley Jr.
To their credit the Giants defense forced a three-and-out. Then Andre Williams didn't add to his fan base by running the ball twice for a gain of one yard to the Giants seven. The 'giving' continued when Manning threw a deep pass to Dwayne Harris for a second interception on two drives when Harris bounced the ball up after being hit hard from behind. Manning had thrown only six interceptions in all the previous 10 games.
Once again the defense did their job and after three plays the Redskins attempted a 51 yard field goal which was blocked. The Giants had good field position and no mishaps aside from a ten yard offensive holding penalty, but their third drive of the game gained them just 20
yards. The Redskins followed up with a field goal in the second quarter to score the first points of the game and they added two touchdowns before the half ended.
During that time Manning took a sack, and there were times where the Giants had problems lining up correctly and had to rush the snap with the clock winding down. There was bad news along the way to go with the Giants poor play. Jason Pierre-Paul was hurt and had left the field at one point and starting guard Geoff Schwartz had fractured his leg. Last season, you may remember Schwartz had a season ending ankle injury. All in all, by the end of the half Manning had gone 10-for-22 for 91 yards and had thrown two interceptions. The Giants had gained only 32 yards on the ground and DeSean Jackson had beat the secondary for a long 63-yard touchdown catch. They were down 17-0.
The Giants weren't able to score until five minutes deep into the fourth quarter. It was too little too late and during this half Manning was sacked two more times and had thrown another interception. His runners added only one more yard to finish with a grand total of 33 yards on 13 carries. The defense gave up only three more points, but were unable to stop the Redskins from a fourth quarter drive that killed the Giants timeouts and chewed the clock, to kill any chances of a comeback.
The Giants can lament that the bye week moved them ahead in the division, but actually setting foot on the field moved them back. On the positive side, they have five games left to try to pull themselves out of this NFC East 5-6, 5-6, 4-7, 3-8 divisional quicksand, where the leaders are just the teams with the best losing record."
