Game Notes:
"It was a cold night for the fans,
but they got to see the past two Super Bowl champion teams face off at
the Meadowlands. Two NFL top tier quarterbacks, Aaron Rodgers and Eli
Manning, (the word 'elite' seems to be in dispute), the MVPs of the regular
season and the Super Bowl, took the field. The Giants scored on their
first possession and Green Bay did the same on theirs to tie the game
up at 7-7.
Once the Giants scored their next touchdown to take the lead they never
looked back. Coming off their bye week seeming renewed and they sent the
Packers packing with a 38-10 loss. In the process Eli Manning threw three
touchdowns and that broke Phil Simms' career record for touchdown passes.
Remind someone to ask Simms if breaking his record is the criteria for
being called 'elite'.
So now Tom Coughlin's "six
game season" has started and game one is in the bag. It stopped their
two game skid and put to rest, at least for now, all the naysayer talk.
Did the Giants come off looking like the Super Bowl champs of last year?
Not totally, but you could certainly see they are back on track, playing
good football and ready to take on the next five games."
Game Notes:
"During the week defensive coordinator
Perry Fewell played some game tape from last year to remind his group
how fierce they can be whenthey put their minds to it. It seemed a wasted
effort at first as Aaron Rodgers, on his very first possession, pulled
off yet another big play on this defense. Corey Webster was the victim
of a 61 yard pass that went for a touchdown. Webster didn't sulk about
it and when he got his chance he made things right by pulling in an interception
and that led to a field goal to increase the Giants lead to 17-7.
The Packers managed only one field goal after that in the second quarter
and they scored no points in the second half. The Giants sack unit was
back in full force. They kept Aaron Rodgers off balance and came away
with five sacks tonight. The defense looks up to the task of their next
challenge which is to face Robert Griffin III on a Monday night road trip
when they play the Redskins next."
