Game
Notes: "Everyone at the stadium
was hoping to see the Giants continue their winning streak. The Giants had an
edge because Aaron Rodgers wasn't playing today and they were starting a new quarterback
in his place. It was a nice day and compared to some other games, where the home
crowd was just getting settled in and sees some horrific play unfold, this one
started out good. On their second series Eli Manning hit with a 26-yard touchdown
pass to Rueben Randle and the defense was hanging tough on the Packers top running
back Eddie Lacy. By the end of the first quarter the Giants were up 7-0. In
the second quarter the Giants took the score to 10-0 with a 40-yard Josh Brown
field goal. With the Giants stopping their running game, the Packers realized
they'd have to rely more on their new starting quarterback. Scott Tolzien came
through with two big passes and his drive ended with a field goal to put the score
at 10-3. The Giants were about to make things right, but then Manning was intercepted
at the Packers 11 yard line. I was thinking, 'OK here we go again', but nothing
happened on that Green Bay drive or the one after that by the Giants. Then with
less than about a minute to go, Tolzien hit on two nice passes and the Packers
were able to make it 10-6 with a real long 57-yard field goal. I know the Giants
like to make things exciting, but I was hoping they would put some distance between
them and the Packers in the third quarter and was happy when they did. Tolzien
completed another long pass, but then threw his first interception. The Giants
went up 13-6 with a field goal. Tolzien completed a few more long passes, but
they still had to punt. The Giants scored a touchdown on their next drive when
Brandon Jacobs took it in from the one yard line and the Giants were leading 20-6.
Tolzien got the ball back and once again hit big with an 18 yard pass. That was
nothing, because next he completed a 52 yard pass. A few plays later they
had a touchdown and it was once again a one score game with the Giants leading
20-13 early in the fourth quarter. That must have fired up the Packer defense
because they came up with two sacks on Manning's next drive and his offense was
three and out. That's when Jason Pierre-Paul ended the nonsense of an inexperienced
quarterback killing the Giants dream of having a shot at their comeback season.
JPP jumped up and intercepted Tolzien's next pass and took it in for a touchdown.
The fans went wild, the Giants were up 27-13 and that became the final score.
I'm really looking forward to the Cowboys game next week."
Game Notes:
"With Aaron Rodgers out and Green Bay forced to field a quarterback making
his first start, the Giants went all out on stopping the run. Eddie Lacy ranks
eighth in the NFL in rushing with a 4.2 yard average, but they accomplished their
task. The defense held Lacy to just 27 yards on 14 carries, although one was a
4 yard touchdown. They were probably caught short by some of the passes thrown
by Scott Tolzien who they had basically dared to beat them with his arm. Tolzien
tried to and he spread out 52, 45, 29, 26, 19, and 16 yarders to six different
receivers. Overall he completed 24 of his 34 passes for 339 yards, but also threw
the obligatory' new kid on the block' interceptions. Three were snared by Jon
Beason, Antrel Rolle, and Jason Pierre-Paul who took his in for a touchdown.
Rueben Randle did a nice job on a punt return taking it back 32 yards. He also
caught all three passes Eli Manning threw his way and one was a touchdown. Victor
Cruz was Manning's main target catching 8 passes for 110 yards. Hakeem Nicks caught
4 for 50 yards, but still has no touchdowns on the season. Nicks left the field
at one point for some reason and his replacement, Louis Murphy, messed up on a
play that cost Manning an interception. Andre Brown provided nearly all the
running for the team going 66 yards on 18 carries. Brandon Jacobs ran the ball
only 5 times, but he made them count. Jacobs ran the ball twice on fourth-and-one
situations and converted on both, and he also ran for a touchdown from the one
yard line. So now the Giants are on a four-game winning streak and they sit
just a game and a half behind the Eagles, and one game behind the Cowboys in the
NFC East. If the Giants feel they have the right stuff to keep up they really
need to show it next week when they play the Cowboys."
