Giants beat the Lions 16-10. Eli Manning was 28-of-39 for 283 yards, and 1
touchdown. Brandon Jacobs rushed for 54 yards on 11 carries and caught 4 passes
for 49 yards. Reuben Droughns rushed for 13 yards on 11 carries and caught
3 passes for 26 yards. Plaxico Burress caught 4 passes for 47 yards. Sinorice
Moss caught 4 passes for 46 yards. Jeremy Shockey caught 5 passes for 41 yards. Amani
Toomer caught 4 passes for 39 yards. Michael Strahan had 3 sacks. Antonio
Pierce had 1 forced fumble. Gibril Wilson, James Butler, and Sam Madison each
had 1 interception. Lawrence Tynes kicked 3 field goals of 28, 46 and 20 yards.
Game
Notes: "The
Giants pulled an escape act in Detroit because they let Kitna complete a lot of
passes for big yardage. Eli Manning and Jon Kitna
both completed 28 passes and Kitna had almost 100 more yards than Manning, but
three of Kitna's other passes went into the hands of Gibril
Wilson, James Butler, and Sam Madison. The last
two interceptions came on Detroit's final two drives with less than three minutes
left in the game. The first would have given them the go ahead touchdown and the
second would have put them at about the Giants 30 yard line. Things looked dicey
for the Giants, but they managed to protect their slim 6 point lead. It sure is
a good thing that Lawrence Tynes nailed all three of his field goals today."
Game
Notes: "The Giants defense
held the potentially explosive Lions to just 10 points
after giving up 31 to the Cowboys last week. The Giants offense looked like they
were playing a bit sharper, but like last week, the Giants still had too many
penalties. The one that got me was for having 12 men in the huddle and that turned
a 3rd-and-1 into a 3rd-and-6 which they didn't make. Unlike last week's multiple
delay of game penalties, you couldn't blame this one on Eli Manning - he's supposed
to be in the huddle. Overall Eli looked more in control this game, and with
Detroit's defense moving quick off the snap, he was very effective using the hard
count to draw them offsides a few times. The Giants needed this game for a wild
card berth, but still this was an expensive win for the Giants. Mathias Kiwanuka
broke his left leg on the Lions first drive of the game and Brandon Jacobs had
to leave the game in the third quarter with a left hamstring injury." Early
