 Game
Notes: "I always love it when
the season opener is at MetLife, but this time I was happy that it wasn't. Watching
at home has its advantages, like no one was able to see how I carried on after
the Giants blew it. I can't imagine being stuck in stadium traffic with all the
other fans the way things went down at the very end. In the first quarter it
was worrisome to see the Cowboys have the ball for so long, but still the Giants
were down only three points after that drive. They got the ball for the first
time and tied it up 3-3 with a long 50 yard field goal. I was concerned to see
Odell Beckham Jr. take that hit on his first attempt at a catch. He looked shaken
up coming off the field. Tony Romo almost nailed Dez Bryant with a touchdown
pass, but had to settle for another field goal and the Cowboys went up 6-3 in
the second quarter. Then later after the two minute warning they fumbled and Dominique
Rodgers-Cromartie picked it up and took it 57 yards for a touchdown! Romo's next
pass after that was intercepted by Uani' Unga and the Giants added another field
goal to basically end the half with a 13-6 lead. The Giants got the ball to
open the second half and drove it down to the Cowboys 12, but Preston Parker couldn't
pull in a 3rd down pass from Eli Manning, so a field goal had the Giants up ten
points, 16-6. That didn't hold up long when Rodgers-Cromartie got hit with a pass
interference call (looked like a real bad call and I'm not just being a fan here)
that set the Cowboys up for an easy touchdown and a 16-13 score. In the fourth
quarter Trumaine McBride intercepted Romo at the Cowboys 20 and took it back one
yard short of the touchdown. Rashad
Jennings ran it in on the next play and the Giants were up a comfortable (or so
it seemed) 23-13 lead. After a Cowboys touchdown the Giants moved the ball and
had everything going their way down at the 4 yard line. Jennings got 2 yards
on the first carry and 1 on the second and the Cowboys were out of timeouts with
1:43 left. For some reason they decided to pass the ball and when that didn't
work, they kicked a field goal. Six quick passing plays later, Jason Witten was
clutching the ball in the endzone for the 27-26 win. The
Giants preseason wasn't so good and sure I was thinking we might lose this opening
game, but to lose it like this was a real killer. The Giants gave us a thrill
for a while. For now, I'm looking forward to next Sunday's game with Atlanta and
hoping that everyone will be driving home with a smile on their faces."

Game Notes:
"Giants - Cowboys, Giants - Coulda woulda shoulda. Actually for the fans
of both teams it was an exciting game. It was more exciting for the Giants fans
in the fourth quarter when they held a 23-13 lead and then it was exciting for
the Cowboys fans when they were able to come up with a last minute win. You could
say that the Giants gifted the win with the strange goings on near the Cowboys
goal line. Something wasn't played right and you could see it when the camera
caught a shot on the Giants sideline. The Eli Manning to Ben McAdoo exchange said
it all. Anyway, right now I demand a solid pledge from the Cowboys fans -
'No longer will I hate my quarterback Tony Romo.' Romo, in need of a touchdown,
had no timeouts and no Dez Bryant - injured earlier, and DeMarco Murray doesn't
exist for him anymore. The Giants defense had already hit this offense for three
turnovers, and with just 1:29 left there was going to be some rushed plays. You
know the rest. Romo made it look easy, completing six of his seven passes, including
the touchdown he needed to steal the game back from a suddenly non existent Giants
defense. It was an interesting game
for all the things that did or did not happen, like the two non turnovers in the
first quarter. There was a non fumble recovery by the Giants when Joseph Randle
carried the ball for the second time. Then there was the non recovery of an Odell
Beckham Jr. fumble by the Cowboys who were shocked to find out the Beckham didn't
actually catch the ball. When does that ever happen? They were so sure it couldn't,
Jason Garrett challenged the call and lost. Of course that quarter ended in a
tie to keep you in your seats for all that was coming next. In this game Preston
Parker wasn't much of a game changer. Manning went to him six times and he pulled
in only 2 for 26 yards. Odell Beckham Jr. seemed out of it after taking an early
hit and was held to 44 yards on 5 receptions. The running backs weren't bad, including
Shane Vereen. Vereen and tight ends Larry Donnell and Daniel Fells, caught as
many passes as the wide receivers and for more yardage. That seems way out of
balance, especially with Manning throwing more passes to Rueben Randle, Beckham
and Parker. The defense didn't put up much of a pass rush, but was opportunistic
with those three turnovers, all of which led to 17 points. It's too bad they suddenly
disappeared at the end. A division win
would have been nice, and they almost had it, but it wasn't in the cards or maybe
the plays the Giants called in the end. Next up is Atlanta. The Giants catch
them coming off a Monday night game and they have to travel as well, after the
Eagles wear them down. Atlanta, with a new head coach, has to face all the NFC
teams in their first five games."
