Game
Notes: "Well,
the offense scored 35 points, but it wasn't enough to win this game against the
Cowboys. The Giants got hit with a bunch of injuries to key players and that's
probably what made the difference. Osi Umenyiora was gone in the first quarter
and Brandon Jacobs in the second. Kevin Dockery was gone in the third quarter,
and Eli Manning in the fourth. Barry Cofield also left the game in the third quarter,
but was able to come back. Eli Manning was in the game late into the fourth
quarter, long enough to show he had the right stuff, throwing for over 300 yards
and 4 touchdowns. His one interception came about when Plaxico Burress slipped
on the field, leaving the defender in a great spot to catch the ball. You have
to hope his bruised right shoulder isn't a serious injury. The Giants stayed on
track with the running game even after Brandon Jacobs left but I think they'll
need all the players healthy to beat the Packers next week at Giants Stadium."
Game
Notes: "The
Cowboys brought the heat to the Giants in more ways than one. Their offense played
hot, and it was hot and humid on the playing field. It was the first game of the
season, and both defenses wore down as the game played on. The Cowboys were able
to cope with it a bit better and were helped by the Giants injuries. The Giants
defense sacked Tony Romo once, but they never got enough pressure on him to matter.
Romo only needed 15 completions on his 24 passes to rack up 345 yards. He threw
4 touchdowns as he chewed up the Giants secondary. They nailed him with one interception,
but Romo got back at them by running one in
nine yards for a touchdown. This is going to be a tough week for Tom Coughlin.
The defense is still broken, and the injuries costly going into week two with
one in the loss column." Early

Notes:
Justin Tuck was the starter in place of Michael Strahan who missed all of preseason. Michael
Strahan had played in 200 NFL games and started the last 190 of them, every game
he has played in since he was a rookie in 1993. Justin
Tuck, in his second career start, registered the Giants' first sack of the season
dropping Tony Romo in the 3rd quarter. Osi
Umenyiora sustained a left knee injury on the fifth Cowboys play. Brandon
Jacobs sprained his right knee on a short run in the 2nd quarter after rushing
six times for 26 yards. Eli Manning
was hurt on a failed two-point conversion attempt. Manning was slammed to the
turf on a horse collar tackle and no penalty was called. Jared
Lorenzen threw the first passes of his career when he replaced Eli Manning late
in the fourth quarter. Giants
missed an extra point attempt because of a low snap by rookie Jay Alford. This
game produced the most points in a the long history of Giants - Cowboys games.
Cowboys had the most points in
an opener since scoring 49 in 1971 -- the year they won their first Super Bowl.
