Giants (3-0) vs Kansas
City (0-3) Last week the Chiefs couldn't break their
losing streak and they left Philadelphia with a 34-14 loss. Perhaps distracted
by the unveiling of Michael Vick playing in various positions, they allowed Eagles
quarterback Kevin Kolb to have such success against them that Kolb became the
first quarterback to throw for 300 yards in his first two career starts. Vick
did toss two incomplete passes and he ran once for seven yards on the Chiefs.
Meanwhile, the Giants took their winning streak to 3-0 with
a performance that allowed Tampa Bay only 5 first downs and 86 total yards. The
Bucs didn't get a first down until 4:54 remained in the third quarter and the
Giants closed the game out 24-0.
Giants - Corrections. The week before facing Tampa Bay,
the Giants allowed 251 rushing yards and 31 points to the Cowboys, even though
they won the game 33-31. The Giants were a
little irked about their defensive performance and not stopping the run. Mathias
Kiwanuka said, "That’s all we could think about." They
totally turned that around against the Bucs last week allowing them 86 total yards
and zero points. The latest buzz is about analyst Tony Siragusa criticizing Brandon
Jacobs for "tiptoeing" and not running harder through the hole. The Giants
defense hears about the lack of sacks recorded - 42 last season but only three
this year. Watch out Kansas City. Chiefs
- Corrections. After finishing 2-14 last year
and 4-12 the year before, they made a number of corrections in the offseason.
They picked up quarterback Matt Cassel in a trade with New England. Head coach
Herm Edwards was replaced by Todd Haley and
after going 0-3 so far he continues to make player moves. This week the Chiefs
traded quarterback Tyler Thigpen to Miami for an undisclosed draft pick and signed
former Arizona tight end Leonard Pope. They also signed linebacker David Herron
and cornerback Mike Richardson. Pope is a real big guy at 6 feet 8 and 264 pounds,
and he is more of a pass receiver than a blocker. It could be they miss what a
tight end like 10-time Pro Bowl Tony Gonzalez (traded to Atlanta) can do for their
offense. Chiefs
Offense. Head coach Todd Haley was the offensive
coordinator for Arizona before getting this job and he has decided to do the play-calling
himself. The Chiefs are currently ranked 30th in the NFL in yards gained, averaging
264.3 yards a game. They had 0 third down conversions last week in 11 attempts
and the Eagles were able to sack quarterback Matt Cassel 3 times even though he
tried only 18 passes. Somehow 14 of them were completed, two even for touchdowns,
but his total passing was just 90 yards. Top
running back Larry Johnson was held to 38 yards on his 19 carries. Chiefs
Defense. Overall they are ranked 19th against
the run (119.3) and 20th vs. the pass (243.0). They started off giving up 501
yards in their first game against Baltimore. They played their best against the
Raiders allowing them just 97 total yards up until
the final 2 1/2 minutes when they blew their lead and the game. Last week the
Eagles went up against this bunch without running
back Brian Westbrook,
quarterback Donovan McNabb and another injured
starter, wide receiver Kevin Curtise. The Chiefs
defense allowed Kevin Kolb to throw for 327 yards and 2 touchdowns, giving up
a total 420 yards.
Giant Concerns. Lawrence
Tynes missed a 29-yard field goal against Dallas, and then a chip-shot 21-yard
field goal last week in Tampa. They don't get much shorter than that and it hurts
to throw away points. Ahmad Bradshaw averaging 5.7 yards a carry, compared to
Brandon Jacobs 3.4, missed some practice because of ankle and foot injuries and
was wearing a protective boot. Four players are out for this game: WR Domenik
Hixon (knee), DT Chris Canty (calf), Aaron Ross (hamstring) and RB Danny Ware
(elbow). From
thirty two to sixteen to nine to seven. The number of
undefeated teams three weeks into the season is now seven. It's Jets, Ravens Colts
and Broncos in the AFC and in the NFC it's the Giants, Vikings, and Saints. In
the undefeated class only the Jets and Saints play each other this week so that
group should drop to six or less. Teams sitting with no wins dropped from nine
to six (if Carolina wins on Monday). Dolphins, Browns, Titans and Chiefs in the
AFC and Bucs and Rams in the NFC. As we mentioned last week, since 1990, only
3 percent of 0-3 teams have reached the postseason. NFC
East. This week the Redskins (1-2) host the winless Buccaneers (0-3)
Sunday at 1:00PM. The Cowboys travel to Denver to play the undefeated Broncos
(3-0) at 4PM. The Eagles have their bye week
and then host Tampa Bay on Oct. 11. All the
NFC East teams are favored to win their games.

rank first in passing defense (124 yards per game) and have five interceptions.
Longest pass play they have allowed was a 35-yarder in Week 1 against Washington. Giants
defense has not registered a sack in the last two games. Giants
offense has not allowed a sack in the last two games. Giants
Steve Smith’s 12 third-down receptions leads the league. Giants
Lawrence Tynes leads all NFL kickers with 32 points. It's his first game back
in Kansas City since the Chiefs traded him to the Giants in 2007. Chiefs
were 0-4 in the preseason and they are 0-3 in the regular season. Chiefs
have lost seven straight at home since their last win there Sept. 28 of last year. Chiefs
last played the Giants at home in the first weekend of NFL games after the September
11 attacks. Chiefs fans gave the Giants
a standing ovation when they were introduced for that game. Chiefs
fans support the team - no blackout and next week's game against Dallas looks
to be sold out. They have sold out 149 consecutive regular-season and playoff
games.
