Giants
(6-5) vs Cowboys (8-3) Tony
Romo had a nice Thanksgiving Day game throwing for 309 yards and
2 touchdowns against the Raiders. The running game was clicking
as well and the total offense gained 494 yards as the Raiders
went down in defeat 24-7.
The Giants also played on Thanksgiving Day. At the half, they
had no points on the board and were down by two touchdowns. It
didn't get any better after that as the offense failed to score
any touchdowns and the only points were from Lawrence Tynes's
two field goals. Meanwhile the defense gave up nine more points
to make the final score 26-6. Dallas
Cowboys. They have done
well for themselves since losing to the Giants 33-31 on the evening
their stadium was unveiled bigtime in NFL week two. They lead
the NFC East with an 8-3 record, losing only to the Giants in
the division. They beat the Eagles in a close 20-16 game and squeaked
by the Redskins with a come from behind 7-6 win. Despite the fact
that the Cowboys seem to be coming on strong, the only two teams
they faced and beat who had winning records at the time were the
Eagles and Atlanta. The other six wins were over Tampa Bay (1-10)
Carolina (4-7) Kansas City (3-8) Seattle (4-7) Washington (3-8)
and Oakland (3-8). Dallas
Offense. Quarterback Tony
Romo has led his team to an 8-3 record with his 17 touchdowns
this season. The trouble is December is where it usually falls
apart for him. His worst game of the season was that first loss
against the Giants (13 of 29 for 127 yards, 1 TD and 3 INTs).
Since then wide receiver, New Jersey native Miles Austin, has
emerged as a nice target for Romo with his 19.6-yard per-catch
average, and of course there's always tight end Jason Witten to
worry about. He leads the Cowboys with 59 receptions. The Cowboys
running attack includes Marion Barber (633 yards rushing), Felix
Jones (421 yards rushing) averaging 6.9 yards per carry, and Tashard
Choice averaging 5.7 yards per carry. Dallas
Defense. The Cowboys haven't
allowed a 300-yard passer or a 100-yard receiver since Eli Manning
hit them for 330 yards and 2 touchdowns using mostly receivers
Steve Smith and Mario Manningham. Both exceeded 100 yards and
totaled 284 yards. The 33 points the Giants scored against the
Cowboys that day was enormous since they average allowing only
16.5 points per game. Linebacker DeMarcus Ware leads the team
with 8 sacks. They'll probably try to get on Eli more this game
and give a little up on the run. They can't afford to have him
hurt them as badly as he did in their first game. They also know
which receivers to key on now. Giants
Offense. The Giants passing
game has been fairly consistent considering the outlook at the
beginning of the season when they were wondering who would be
the stand out receivers. Unfortunately the strong running game
that was expected has faltered and looks to be near the worst
all season. In the last two games they totaled only 88 and 57
yards after leading the NFL with an average of 157.4 rushing yards
per game last year. There is also the possibly that Brandon Jacobs
will have only rookie Gartrell Johnson to back him up for this
game, although Ahmad Bradshaw made some strides late this week.
People are also starting to question the Giants front line which
has long been able to provide gaps for the running game and protect
Eli Manning. Giants
Defense. They were effective
against Romo in that win against Dallas, but are struggling now
and you have to remember they still allowed 378 yards in that
game, giving up 251 on the ground. This defense has allowed an
average of 362.5 total yards in their last two games. This week
they plan on breaking in last year's fifth-round draft pick Jonathan
Goff as a replacement for middle linebacker Antonio Pierce who
was out for those two games. It's a good thing they had an extended
time to plan for this game, but Dallas also has that same edge
since both teams played on Thanksgiving. Giant
Concerns. The Cowboys are
running hot and hitting the Giants at a time when they are running
cold. Breaking in new talent at the middle linebacker position
is a concern. Losing any game from here on out to any division
team is an even bigger concern. NFC
East. On Sunday
at 1PM the Eagles (7-4) play at Atlanta (6-5) and the Redskins
(3-8) host the Saints (11-0). The Eagles and Cowboys are favored
to win their games. From
thirty two to sixteen to nine to seven to five to four to three
to two. No two teams have
gone this far into an NFL season and remained undefeated. The
(11-0) Colts and Saints both play at 1PM on Sunday. It will be
New Orleans at Washington (3-8) and Titans (5-6) at Colts. Both
undefeated teams are favored to win.

Defensive tackle Chris Canty will play against his former team
for the first time. Giants
former players scheduled to be honorary captains for this game
are Tiki Barber, the franchise's career rushing leader; fullback
Greg Comella; defensive tackle Keith Hamilton; and safety Sam
Garnes. Cowboys head
coach Wade Phillips is 30-14 in his three years in Dallas. Ten
of those losses have come in December and January (including a
playoff loss). Cowboys
are 5-10 after Thanksgiving with Tony Romo as quarterback (including
regular and postseason).
