lose to the Colts 28-27. Eli Manning was 25 of 33 for 309 yards with 1 TD and
1 INT, and ran for a 1 yard TD. Saquon Barkley had 21 carries for 43 yards
and 1 TD, and caught 5 passes for 34 yards. Sterling Shepard caught 6 passes
for 113 yards, and had 1 carry for -3 yards. Evan
Engram caught 6 passes for 86 yards, and had 2 carries for 26 yards. Wayne
Gallman had 2 carries for 12 yards. Corey
Coleman had 1 carry for 5 yards. Bennie
Fowler caught 1 pass for 26 yards. Rhett
Ellison caught 2 passes for 18 yards. Scott
Simonson caught 3 passes for
16 yards. Cody Latimer caught 1 pass for 10 yards. Elijhaa
Penny caught 1 pass for 5 yards. Curtis
Riley had 1 INT. Tae Davis

"The
Giants played well, and I thought we had it this time. They were up 17-7 at halftime,
and even when the Colts scored a touchdown in the third quarter, the Giants came
right back. They scored again on the following possession to again take a ten
point lead. Then the Colts started to get their act together. Andrew Luck tossed
two passes for 29 and 28 yards on the next drive, and soon they had a touchdown.
With the lead cut to three points, I was hoping the Giants could do more than
score a field goal, as things were moving along in the fourth quarter. As it turned,
out that was the best they could do, so the score was now 27-21 in favor of the
Giants. I was happy to see the Giants defense hold at the Giants 39-yard line,
but the Colts punted, and they got what they wanted. Eli Manning was stuck at
his own 4-yard line. The Giants drew two penalties on the next few plays, a false
start and an illegal block, and they ended up punting from the 6-yard line. The
Colts now had good field position near midfield, and they really needed a touchdown
instead of a field goal with less than four minutes to play. Of course, the
Giants couldn't stop them, and now found themselves trailing by one point. Manning
had about a minute to get them into field goal range. Manning got off two passes
which gave them a first down, but his next was a deep pass that was intercepted,
and that about did it. The Colts were 'Andrew Lucky' that they were able to come
back and win this game, to continue their playoff hunt. The Giants took yet another
sad loss on the season."
"The
Colts shut out the Cowboys last week, but they couldn't stop Eli Manning from
completing 25 of his 33 passes for 309 yards and 1 touchdown. Yes, there was also
that 1 interception near the end when Manning had 23 seconds left to get his team
into field goal range. That was after the defense squandered a 27-21 lead. Manning's
detractors will jump on that and ignore the fact that the running game, even with
Saquon Barkley carrying the ball 21 times, averaged less than 3 yards a carry.
It was all on Manning's arm to get it done, and he averaged 9.4 yards a throw.
Manning did it throwing to eight different receivers not named Odell Beckham Jr.
and Russell Shepard, while completing 75 percent of his passes. Getting back
to that last drive, with 55 seconds left, it was killed on the first play. Barkley
really needed to get out of bounds when Manning threw him that short check down
pass. Manning then hurried a pass to Evan Engram, who got them a first down and
out of bounds to stop the clock, but then they were only at their own 36-yard
line. There weren't many options with just 23 seconds left, and Manning's ensuing
interception ruined his outstanding performance on the day, which included a one-yard
quarterback sneak for a touchdown. Sterling Shepard had his second best day
of the season, catching six passes on seven targets for 113 yards, while averaging
18.8 yards per reception. Engram was there for Manning too, catching all six of
the passes tossed to him for 87 yards, averaging 14.5 yards per catch. Engram
also carried the ball twice on end-arounds for 26 yards. The defense held it's
own for awhile, but still there's no real pass rush. The Colts kept at it, and
Andrew Luck did what good quarterbacks can do if they have time. So for the Giants,
it was another win almost there. Let's see how the Giants finish off the season
next week when they play in their final game of the season at home against the
Dallas Cowboys."
