"I couldn't believe the Giants had a 17-3 lead at the end of the half. Imagine how I felt at the end of the game. It was too good to be true, because they went into the game as such underdogs after all that had happened last week. The Giants were intense from the start. The defense had the Broncos three-and-out. Eli Manning took over, and with a mixture of running and passing plays, had four first downs and was at the Denver 5-yard line. Manning took a sack there on third down, and they settled for a field goal.
Jason Pierre-Paul hit Denver quarterback Trevor Siemian with a sack, and that helped them to a three-and-out. A bit later the Broncos tried to tie the score, but missed on their field goal attempt. On his turn, Manning completed a nice pass on a third-down-and ten to Roger Lewis for 15 yards, followed by Orleans Darkwa breaking through the middle for a 47 yard run. They ran the ball using Wayne Gallman and Darkwa, and once again found themselves on the Denver 5-yard line. This time on third down, Evan Engram caught a touchdown pass from Manning and the Giants were up 10-0.
Landon Collins intercepted Siemian on the Broncos next drive. The Giants offense didn't capitalize on that, and the next time the Broncos had the ball, they drove down to the Giants 10-yard line. The defense held them to three incomplete passes, and the Broncos kicked a field goal for their first score. Manning took another sack on his turn, and went three-and-out. Then with less than a minute left, Janoris Jenkins came up with a 43 yard interception he returned for a touchdown. Surprisingly, at the end of the half the Giants were up 17-3.
Aldrick Rosas kicked a 51 yard field goal in the third quarter, followed by Denver's kicker missing his second attempt in the game. Rosas was up next trying a 49 yarder, but it was blocked. The fourth quarter started with Siemian completing a first down pass on a fourth-and-five, but thanks to Janoris Jenkins, the receiver fumbled and Eli Apple came up with the ball.
The score stayed the same until the four minute mark when Siemian completed a 13 yard pass for his first touchdown. The Giants took the clock all the way down to 27 seconds when Rosas kicked a 40 yard field goal, and the final score was 23-10.
The Giants broke the losing streak, and they almost made it look easy playing against a tough team that had everything going for them, a bye week, home field advantage, and with mostly all of their starters playing. It sure will be interesting to see how the Giants do next week when they host the Seattle Seahawks."

"In one short week Ben McAdoo went from being one of the guys to 'that guy'. It looked like he had lost the team, especially when he suspended a veteran locker room favorite, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Aside from the players trying to figure out their failings in the five straight losses, and how the multiple injuries would affect the team, this just added to the week's confusion. Still somehow they pulled off a major upset.
One of Ben McAdoo's thoughts to get back on a wining track was to simplify things. That all happened by itself in one area. With his first line of receivers suddenly out, the new players didn't have much time to suit up, let alone get on board with any complicated route schemes Eli Manning would like to use. McAdoo also made things simpler for himself. McAdoo fell on his sword tonight giving up his play calling, and whether that made the difference or not, you have to give him credit for doing it.
The difference in play calling seemed to be sticking with the run until it worked. Maybe McAdoo would have called it the same way this week because of the receiver lineup Manning had to work with. You might have noticed that he threw to Travis Rudolph only once, Roger Lewis twice, and Tavarres King three times. The results were two catches out of six for 22 yards. Meanwhile tight end Evan Engram had five catches for 82 yards and one touchdown.
It helped the Giants offense that they got off to a fast start. Manning's drive took up almost half of the first quarter, and the mixture of run and pass plays set the tone even though they stalled after a sack to came away with just a field goal. Over the course of the game Manning completed only 11 passes, so think how important the running game was. The Giants are leaning more on offensive lineman D.J. Fluker. He started at right guard tonight, and the team picked up 148 yards against the best rushing defense in the league.
The defense also did its part holding Denver to 46 yards on the ground. They came up with four sacks, three by Jason Pierre-Paul, and one by Damon Harrison. Landon Collins had one interception, as well as Janoris Jenkins, who took his in for a touchdown. Next week will reveal a lot about where this team stands now. Maybe Sterling Shepard will be back for Manning. Maybe the running game will hold up. Maybe the defense has found itself. We'll find out some answers when they play Seattle
