Notes: "I was surprised and
happy to see the Giants win today in London playing at Twickenham Stadium. They
looked like they were going to take a real pounding the way things started off.
Just two plays into the game, Eli Manning threw a pass to Larry Donnell, and he
fumbled the ball over on the Giants 35 yard line. The Rams turned that into a
seven point lead on the following drive. On Manning's turn, his first pass went
to Sterling Shepard for an 11 yard first down, but they couldn't get another one
and had to punt. Rams quarterback Case Keenum started off with a deep pass
that was good for 48 yards, and soon his team added a field goal to make it 10-0.
The Giants went three-and-out and were in a bit of a sticky wicket at this point
(I just had to say that). The Giants did get things going in the second quarter,
but stalled at the Rams 12 yard line and settled for a field goal to make it 10-3.
Landon Collins helped things along in a big way with an interception right after
that. His crazy 44 yard return for a touchdown is sure to be in all the highlights
for this weekend. Then Dwayne Harris had to be removed from the field after being
hit on a punt return, and the half ended with the score tied at 10-10. Nothing
happened for either team in the third quarter. In
the fourth I was surprised, but very happy to see Harris back. A few drives later,
Collins came up with another interception. This time he let Manning's group get
in on some of the action. They followed up with Rashad Jennings running the ball
in for a touchdown to take a 17-10 lead. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie stole
the show with two more interceptions to make this a fun game for all the Giants
fans home and abroad. So the Giants have won their last two games and get a break
for the bye week. I'll try to catch the Eagles playing next week, because that's
who the Giants will be up against in an important division game the following
Sunday."
Game Notes:
"This was one of those times where you were almost glad to see the Giants
defense on the field too much. They were actually the most effective group of
playmakers in this game. The defense accounted for four sacks and four interceptions,
with one being returned for a 44 yard touchdown by Landon Collins. He also put
his offense in great field position to make the only other touchdown the Giants
managed to score. In the fourth quarter, thanks to Collins' second interception,
the ball was handed over to Eli Manning at the Rams 35 yard line. A completion
to Roger Lewis for seven, followed by another to Odell Beckham Jr. for 22, got
them down to the six yard line. Then it was 3,2,1, as in three straight runs by
Rashad Jennings for exactly that amount of yardage on each carry, and the Giants
were in the endzone. It was that go ahead touchdown that put them up 17-10
for the the final score, stamped and sealed by Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie's second
interception, this one in the endzone with just fifty seconds left. The Giants
got to leave London with a win, even though their offense barely showed up. They
generated just 196 yards passing with no touchdowns, and a season low 36 yards
rushing at 1.8 yards a carry. That's something Ben McAdoo will really have to
figure out over the long bye before they play the Philadelphia Eagles."
