Giants keep it exciting
till the end
QB Kerry Collins looked sharp again.
Giants showed
some variations on offense.
Tiki
Barber carried 7 times for 83 yards and caught 4 passes for 27 yards.

That was some
ending.
"You
got that right. It's like I always say, you see it all when you
watch the Giants, and just think, they had the nerve to keep my
Giants off Monday night football this season! Look at the kind of
stuff they're gonna miss out on. Dennis Miller wouldn't know where
to start with all the material the Giants can give him."
That was a bad
break for the rookies, Jack Golden, and Fred Lewis.
"Sure,
but that's one way to get the coach's attention. I was thinking
as they showed the replay, what if Lewis saw something good while
he was shuffling around on the goal line? Maybe he saw a way to
take it way upfield, and the game would have ended with him having
the interception that stopped the Jaguars cold, with maybe a 20
yard victory run tossed in. Instead, thanks to Golden, he's just
a butt of jokes for the rest of the season."
That was a good
preseason game to watch.
"Sure,
it was a good game, and the Giants had it won, and considering who
they were playing, I'm impressed. I think that Ron Dayne looked
better, and Collins had less completions than last week and one
interception, but that was mostly due to the way the receivers were
handling the ball. Tiki also had a real nice game, both catching
and running.
I still like to see the game in person instead of catching it on
TV, and I'm hoping it was the set I was watching on, because I don't
know if I like the Giants away uniforms. They don't seem to be blue
enough. I almost felt like I was watching the Redskins with all
the red tones."
Last thoughts?
"Right
now I'm just looking forward to next week's game against the Jets.
I get a different perspective of the game, because it's an away
game for the Giants and I'll be in my boyfriend's seats. That's
at least one reason to keep the Jets loving fan around. The Jets
got us in preseason last year, but we nailed them in the regular
season. I'm anxious to see how they play without Uncle Bill calling
the shots."

How
did you see the game Mikefan?
"The
first string is looking pretty good right now, but that's it. The
second string and third can't keep up with their counterparts, and
the trouble with this is that some of these players could find themselves
in the game against the other opposition's first string if the Giants
run into any kind of injury problems at all. Already Mike Barrow
has yet to make an appearance in preseason, and his backup, Pete
Monty, is out at least three weeks with a broken thumb. O.J. Childress
is the next in line. Kerry Collins is doing just fine, but second
string QB Garrett is a bit nicked up. He was spiked and needed stitches.
My point is that the Giants will be fine if nobody gets hurt, but
once that happens they're in trouble"
That sounds a
bit bleak.
"
It may but it's a fact. Also looking on the downside, the Giants
feel that they have made great strides in the offense, but have
scored a total of only 21 points in two preseason games. Things
are looking good as far as performance goes, but I don't see points
on the board, and that's what wins games. The only upside is that
this is preseason and hopefully the best is yet to come."
What's good?
"As
Gamegirl said, Collins is good. Tiki is good, Toomer is good. He
has 6 catches for 71 yards and a TD in only three quarters of play.
The offensive line is holding up nicely. It was good to see Joe
Montgomery in there for his first shot this preseason, carrying
13 times for 37 yards. I'll disagree with Gamegirl about Ron
Dayne. He's coming along way too slow. Most of what he did
good, was against the second string guys. I expect more from this
guy. Oh, and before I forget. I do agree with her about the uniforms.
Anything else?
That strange play at the end of the game took all the press away
from the fact that the Giants have really bad luck when it comes
to challenging calls. There was an incompletion call on a pass to
Amani Toomer early in the second quarter that Fassel challenged,
and of course he got nowhere with it. Special teams was a little
bit better this week, but it was easy to improve over last week's
performance."
Next
week?
"The
Jets are really having a tough time with the quarterback position.
Lucas killed us last time in preseason, but everyone knows about
him now. I'm looking forward to this game, even though I'll be catching
it on TV. Let's see if Dayne can really turn it up for this one."
