GIANTS NAME SEVEN OF 10 PRACTICE SQUAD PLAYERS - INCLUDING COX, BENNET
By Dave Klein
The Giants named seven of their possible 10 practice squad players Sunday and
six of them spent the summer with the team.
Those with summer-long familiarity were running back Michael Cox, cornerbacks
Chandler Fenner and Bennett Jackson, linebacker Dan Fox, defensive end Jordan
Stanton and wide receiver Julian Talley. They
also claimed offensive tackle Nick Becton (6-5, 323), who was released by the
San Diego Chargers. He was the only player - thus far - claimed from another team's
scrap heap. But the New England Patriots
(again?) claimed a player the Giants had planned to keep, defensive tackle Kelcy
Quarles, who had an exceptional game against them Thursday night. Just
two of the players retained had been drafted by the Giants - Cox, in the seventh
round last year; and Jackson, in the sixth round this year. The
remaining three allowable spots do not have to be filled, but in all likelihood
will be within the next day or two. The season begins for the Giants next Monday
night in Detroit, after which they return home for consecutive games against Arizona
and Houston before going to Washington to visit with RG-3.
JUST A NOTE - Wanna feel old(er)? Former Giants' wide receiver Stephen Baker,
the "Touchdown Maker," turned 50 on Friday. Check

run much more frequently than what is available here. - Team Giants
