only five sportswriters to have covered all the Super Bowls.

The Giants, as head coach Tom Coughlin promised, didn't wait until Tuesday to make a substantial portion of their roster cuts.

They dropped the hammer on 13 players Monday, leaving them with just four more hearts to break before the NFL imposed roster maximum of 65 must be reached by 4 p.m. ET Tuesday.

Those who were disposed of, but not in a goodbye-have-a-good-life fashion, were guard Rich Seubert and defensive end Lorenzo Bromell, both of whom were placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP/Reserve). They had been on the PUP/Active, meaning they could take part in training camp activities before counting -- or not counting -- on the official roster.
