"Jet fans should have their beer cut off 10 minutes into
the game"
Gamegirl was not in a happy mood. It seems she lost a bet,
and the penalty was having to go to a Jets game with the Jets
guy.
"It was scorching hot!"
"It's the same stadium the Giants use.", we pointed
out.
Gamegirl turned, and looked ready to slug us. "I'm used
to my seats in first level. Here, I was stuck in nosebleed
seats in the sun with unruly beer drinking Jet fans, and because
of the stupid bet , I even had to wear a Jet T-shirt!"
"Did you look good in it?", we asked. Gamegirl snapped
back with a quick,
"Of course.", and she flashed us that smile of hers.
As she shook her hair to one side, we suddenly excused the
Jet fans, any fan might tend to be a bit unruly seeing Gamegirl
in their team T-shirt.
Gamegirl went on about the Jet game as if she couldn't get
the horrible experience out of her mind.
"They have male cheerleaders who run across the field
with flags, and a tee girl who runs out to get the tee. I
did get a free Jet bag out of this deal.
"Was it a barf bag?" we asked, knowing how the Jet
game had gone, although to be fair, if it wasn't filled up,
it could also have been used for the Giants game that followed.
Gamegirl laughed, and we talked with the Jets guy for awhile.
He had a different perspective.
"It wasn't all that bad. There was some tailgating. That
was fun."
We looked over, and Gamegirl made a face.
The Jet guy continued, "She got that Jet bag which she
does like. While we were watching, we heard the news about
Sossa hitting number 62 to tie McGwire."
That got us back into the sports aspect of our interview,
and we asked him for comments on the Jet game. He seemed more
comfortable with this topic.
"The refereeing was very poor. There were bad calls,
and some flags should have been thrown but weren't, and others
shouldn't have been, but that's not the whole deal. Parcells
kept trying to establish the run, and it just didn't work.
I think that when you can't get the run going, you establish
the pass first, and then go back to the run."
Gamegirl agreed with his assessment, mentioned that they left
on the last touchdown the Ravens scored, "along with
the other four Jet fans who were left, and got stuck in traffic,
and missed the 1st quarter of the Giants game."
That was too bad we informed her, because the 1st quarter
included the only sustained drive the Giants had all game.
Gamegirl shook her head,
"The
Giants were lulled into a sort of penalty sleepwalk with the
Raiders. They couldn't get the run going and never went downfield
with the pass. We got gypped at the end of the half when they
didn't catch the Raider fumble, and that
4th quarter was horrible."
We left Gamegirl at that point, reminding her not to make
any more bets.
Mikefan was waiting
for us, and went non stop with his report.
"Fassel
lost that game. He couldn't adapt the players to playing with
the Raiders. The whole pace of that game was truly ridiculous.
It was excruciating to watch on TV even with the comforts
of home and benefits of a channel changer, let alone to be
at a game like that. I found myself looking forward to the
commercials I hadn't seen.
Why would the Raiders put their paying fans through it.
In fact I can't imagine why there are any Raider fans out
there. Maybe they just like the 'Big Play', which the Raiders
make every now and then. Of course if you earn tons of flags,
you're always trying for those big plays.
The Raider fans should just buy a football 'highlights' tape
and save a lot of money.
The Giants team needs consistency. All they had was chaos.
There was a lot of standing around for the players. The game
ran extra long. I felt tired just watching that mess of a
game. Why would a team like the Giants all of a sudden pick
up 15 penalties? The Raiders had 16, and both teams played
like crap!"
Mikefan
glanced at his notes, "The Giants racked up 71 yards
on 23 carries, and going 1-14 on 3rd down conversions, isn't
going to cut it. They would have been better off lobbing balls
downfield and hoping for big plays just like the Raiders do.
Fassel kept trying to pretend there was a real football game
going on. Somewhere along the line you have to realize that
things aren't working and switch the game plan."
Mikefan looked disgusted. "No running game, no confidence
in the passing game, penalties, Blah!"
We prodded him for some thoughts on the upcoming Dallas game.
"Against Dallas, figure Wheatley to be suited up to play.
It's a good chance for the Giants to show the guy off on Monday
night football in case there might be some takers down the
line. On the other hand, if things go like I think they will
with Wheatley, this game could take all the heat off the Giants
for not using him."
