Next
week - The Baltimore Ravens:
What are they saying about the
Giants? Click

Gamegirl answered
the door, let us in, and then slumped into a chair. "Every
game just got harder to win this year without Jason Sehorn."
She kept fidgeting, and you could see that she was replaying
the opening kickoff in her mind over and over. It bothered
her, as well as the fans and players from both NY teams, to
see such talent cut down in this fashion.
To get her mind off Seahorn, we asked her about Ike Hilliard.
She knew what we were up to right away, and smiled. "Yes,
I know that players do come back, and Hilliard's a good example.
He had a real good game. In general, in the face of what happened
out there, my Giants played well as a team. I can't get too
mad about them losing a preseason game to Parcells' Jets by
a close score."
"We'll just have to wait and see how things look next
week. The last preseason game is the most important one anyway."
She still looked a little down. We reminded Gamegirl that
some players with similar injuries to Jason's have made it
back sooner. Then we left Gamegirl smiling, and we were at
least happy for that.
Mikefan looked up
and shook his head from side to side. "This unfortunate
accident will cost us two games this season. In fact, who
would have thought that with the Giant's getting the opening
kickoff, that the Jets would have a 6-0 lead after only 3:19
into the game?"
Mikefan shook his head some more, this time in an effort to
dismiss the bad news. "Anyway, if the coaches wanted
intensity from their players after last week's losses, that's
what they got! Jason's teammates came roaring back amidst
the news that he had a severe knee injury and put the Giants
ahead on the scoreboard."
"The Danny Kanell to Ike Hilliard connection was looking
real good. Overall, Kanell was 16 of 25 for 156 yards, and
Hilliard reeled in 7 for 74 yards. It hurt to lose our fullback,
Charles Way (left ankle sprain), on the first offensive series,
but still, the Giants went into the locker room with a 17-13
lead."
"In the second half, there was plenty of hustling on
both sides. Tiki Barber is impossible to gauge. You definitely
want him for his speed, but he's inconsistent. There was a
lot more plowing forward than dancing from Wheatly in the
game, and he looked good doing it. Conrad Hamilton could start
for Sehorn. Shaun Williams, our first round pick was in there,
but he still has a lot to learn. Jurevicius came up with a
miracle catch. Kent Graham didn't have much luck on his turn
at quarterback, and Mike Cherry didn't make it into the game."
We asked Mikefan what he thought of the instant replay. "So
far so good. On that last pass attempt for the Giants, the
refs called it right both on the play and the review. It cost
the team a timeout - as it should, and the answer came back
fast enough. This new version of Instant Replay looks good
to me."
Then he wrapped it up. "On the Jets side, there were
some old familiar names and some new ones. Keyshawn Johnson,
Ogbogu, Foley and Testaverde - all looked great."
