Chrisfan's
Review.
When my girlfriend
told me that the Giants/Redskins game was on local TV down
in North Carolina where we live, I was shocked.
She's a Redskins fan, and I'm a Giants fan, so I figured it'd
be an opportunity to gloat about how the Giants would be 2-0
and the Skins 0-2.
So with this in mind, I made a point to get up in time to
watch the "early" 1:00 game.
Normally, it being a
weekend (and still being somewhat sick), I would have slept
later, but this was a rare opportunity. So I made it to the
couch at 1:15 and the score was already 7-0 and the Giants
offense was being introduced.
Ahh... first possession I thought for the Gmen's offense,
time to see them light up the sky and come out hard. Instead
I was welcomed with a 3 and out. Since we all know what happened
from there, I won't bore you with the details of what was
perhaps the worst Giants game I've ever watched aside from
telling you that all my girlfriend said upon hearing the score
was "What happened????" ... what happened indeed.
In fact it's hard to
place the blame any one place (even if we want to blame Lincoln
for getting burned, pass interference, etc...). It's almost
as if the Giants forgot how to play football.
However, despite Gamegirl and Mikefan's "witty" commentary
about calendars, there was actually a bright spot on the Giants
offense that needs to be exploited.
Everytime the Giants tried to run the ball up the middle,
they got nowhere. They have to face the fact that none of
our running backs are Rodney Hamptons and just stop doing
it. But, when they bounced Johnson and Bennett to the outside,
gains of 5-6 yards started becoming the norm.
These guys are fast! Sure Johnson fumbled once, likely due
to the cast on his hand, but I think the Giants actually found
something here.
It's not such a bad thing running to the outside...that's
how Sanders on Detroit made his $$$, so are you listening
coach Fassel?
More running to the outside!
Aside from that... it's
time to let Barber go. He's a wasted player on the field.
And even during kickoff returns, Patten showed he's much more
adept at returning than Barber has ever been.
Next week, I get to watch the game again as it'll be on ESPN.
So here's hoping to a much better showing...
Next week
The Giants are at
New England for an 8:30 PM game.
The Redskins play the Jets at the Meadowlands at 1 PM.
